MIAMI - Rennie Stennett, the one-time Pirate and Giant, embraced his fame after getting seven hits in a 1975 game at Wrigley Field. For many years he tooled around South Florida with a license plate that read, "7 for 7."
No major-leaguer matched the feat until Brandon Crawford on Monday night at Marlins Park, geographically fortuitous because Stennett lives nearby. On Wednesday morning, Stennett visited Crawford to congratulate him and share a conversation that they and only four other players in history could have.
"I didn't know a whole lot about him, to be honest with you," Crawford said.
