Giants first baseman Brandon Belt had his appendix removed Friday night and the team placed him on the 10-day disabled list Saturday. The Giants reinstated infielder Alen Hanson from the disabled list to take Belt’s spot on the roster.
Belt was expected to be released from the hospital Saturday afternoon. He played the first two innings of the Giants’ 4-0 win over Philadelphia on Friday night before heading to the hospital.
Belt is hitting .307 and leads the Giants in home runs (11), RBIs (31) and on-base percentage (.403).
With Belt out, Pablo Sandoval and Buster Posey figure to get the bulk of the playing time at first base.
