PHOENIX — Every so often, a batter hits a ball so hard and far the observer reflexively shouts, “Holy ...” Well, holy something or other.
Mac Williamson was that batter Saturday night. He hit a fourth-inning home run against lefty Patrick Corbin that cleared the yellow line in left-center, cleared a patio that overhangs the field and hit the scoreboard. Statcast had it at 460 feet, the Giants’ longest homer of the year.
The Giants’ bullpen made sure Williamson could not celebrate. Trying to protect a two-run lead in the eighth, Josh Osich walked Jake Lamb and Welington Castillo hit a three-run homer off Hunter Strickland that gave the Diamondbacks a 6-5 victory in a game the Giants led 5-1.
