The Giants did not exactly learn a lesson Sunday. They already know that any man standing at the plate in a major-league game can do damage, no matter how bad his team is. However, they got a timely reminder that even that bad team can get off the mat when you give it a shove.
The Giants beat the Phillies 8-7 Sunday on Conor Gillaspie's walkoff double in the ninth against Severino Gonzalez and took the series, but by the skin of their teeth after they blew leads Sunday of 5-1, 6-5 and 7-6.
