SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants' indoor batting cage recently received some appropriate decor.
The wall near a corner of the cage is adorned with poster-sized images of Hall of Famers Mel Ott, Orlando Cepeda, Willie McCovey and Willie Mays, all wearing wide grins (you'd smile, too, if you could hit like them). Arranged on the floor below these photos are similarly sized shots representing five of the franchise's eight World Series-winning teams (1922, 1954, 2010, 2012 and 2014).
Hitting coach Alonzo Powell intended for the pictures in the cage -- which is situated in a subterranean area adjacent to the Giants' dugout -- to function as more than mere ornaments.
