LOS ANGELES - The seagulls that feed on the detritus of a ballgame have to be wondering why baseball season is two weeks old and they have had so few crumbs to scavenge.
Well, Jonathan Livingston, the schedule had the Giants play nine of their first 13 games on the road, a stretch that ended Sunday when new Dodger Kenta Maeda outworked Jeff Samardzija in a 3-1 Los Angeles victory Sunday night.
The Giants dropped two of three in both Denver and Los Angeles to end the stretch 7-6.
They also lost third-base coach Roberto Kelly in the series finale at Dodger Stadium when an apparent warmup throw sailed into the dugout and hit him in the head.
