The Giants are preparing to enter Major League Baseball’s winter meetings without a general manager on staff, but the franchise isn’t short on front office executives who have done the job.
President of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said Wednesday the Giants are planning to hire former Toronto Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi to serve as a special assistant.
“He’s a terrific baseball executive, knows the game as well as anybody and we’re just kind of dotting I’s and crossing T’s,” Zaidi said during an interview on KNBR. “J.P. still should be finalized here shortly and he’ll be with us at the Winter Meetings.
