Giants adding reliever Tony Watson

The Giants are upgrading their bullpen with the addition of left-hander Tony Watson, who posted a 3.38 ERA for the Pirates and Dodgers last season.

The Giants have been looking to deepen their relief corps, especially from the left side, while attempting to stay under the $197 million threshold for the competitive balance tax.

The agreement was reported by multiple outlets, initially FanRag. The finances and length of the contract weren’t immediately known.

Watson, 32, struck out 53 batters and walked 20 in 66 2/3 innings covering 71 outings. The Pirates traded him on July 31 to the Dodgers, with whom his ERA was 2.
