SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.–The Giants desired to add another right-handed hitter to their infield mix and early Friday, new president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi accomplished that mission.
The Giants are in agreement with infielder Yangervis Solarte on a contract, according to Robert Murray of The Athletic.
Solarte struggled through a down season offensively last year but still hit 17 home runs during his time with the Blue Jays. Prior to 2018, Solarte had spent the last four seasons with the San Diego Padres.
The 31-year-old infielder plays third base, shortstop and second base and could form a platoon with Joe Panik if the Giants follow the model used by Zaidi’s Dodgers last season.
