Barring a “Damn Yankees” belief-suspending miracle, the Giants are out of contention for the postseason.
But hope could be just over the horizon. According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Giants are one of nine major league teams in the running for Houston Astros ace Gerrit Cole, one of the jewels of the 2019 free agent crop.
Cole, 29, is the real deal. He is wrapping up his second season with the Astros, for whom he has gone 30-10 with a 2.87 ERA.
He is postseason tested. They say his arm is healthy as a horse.
