Garcia's blast came off right-hander Josh Staumont, the Royals' No. 10 prospect, who hit as high as 97 mph with his fastball. Garcia's homer turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead that wouldn't be relinquished.
"Their starter did a really good job of mixing up his speeds on his fastball," Garcia said. "I felt like he was taking some off, putting some on, so I was really just trying to battle with two strikes. I got a pitch up and I was able to put a good swing on it."
Garcia, 23, has already faced quite a bit of adversity since being selected by the Giants in the second round of the 2014 Draft.
