Somewhere at his house, in a box filled with baseball mementos, Javier Lopez has a selfie he took with David Ortiz.
The photo captures one of the best moments in Lopez’s career: After sweeping the Rockies in the 2007 World Series, with trays of ribs surrounding them, he and Ortiz smiled into a disposable camera.
“We were both crushing ribs, and I had to take a selfie,” Lopez said. “It’s hilarious.”
In the seventh inning of the Giants’ win Tuesday night over the Red Sox, Lopez threw to his friend for the first time. The at-bat, which ended in a game-tying groundout, brought back a host of memories for Lopez.
