Beloved Giants reliever Javier Lopez announced his retirement Wednesday to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal.
“More than anything, it’s just time,” Lopez told Rosenthal. “It’s a young man’s game. Although I think I can compete, it’s getting harder and harder to get ready for spring.
The four-time World Series champion — thrice with the Giants and once with the Red Sox — was a free agent after spending seven seasons with San Francisco. He exits Major League Baseball with the most World Series rings of any active player.
“I’m looking forward to some other things in my life,” he told Rosenthal.
