Hank Greenwald, one of the iconic voices of the San Francisco Giants, died Monday at 83.
Greenwald had reportedly been suffering from heart issues and kidney failure and was taken to California Pacific Medical Center on Saturday.
Greenwald enjoyed two stints as a broadcaster with the Giants, working with the team from 1979-86 before he called New York Yankees games on the radio from 1987-88. He returned to the Giants in 1989, a year the club won the National League pennant and remained as a voice of the team through the end of the 1996 season.
Before he began calling games on KNBR, Greenwald’s first broadcasting gig in the Bay Area came in 1964 when he moved to San Francisco to broadcast Warriors games alongside local broadcasting legend Bill King.
