SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Michael Morse, saying he feels “awesome” after nearly a year off from baseball, arrived at camp Thursday and said he wants to play for the Giants in 2017 or nobody at all.
“I don’t want to play for any other team,” said Morse, who at 34 is here on a minor-league deal and will compete for a backup outfield job. “I had so much fun here. I could hit .900 here (in the spring), and if they don’t have a spot for me, I’ll go home and be with my daughters.”
Morse, who hit the tying homer in Game 5 of the 2014 National League Championship Series, said his surprising minor-league deal with the Giants stemmed from a conversation with general manager Bobby Evans at Hunter Pence’s wedding in December.
