LOS ANGELES–It took just five regular season games before Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi made a significant change to the team’s roster.
After a 2-3 start to the year, the Giants acquired veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar from the Blue Jays Tuesday in exchange for infielder Alen Hanson, reliever Derek Law and pitching prospect Juan De Paula.
Pillar, 30, has seven years of major league experience and is under club control for the next two seasons. After a spring competition featuring Rule 5 draft choice Drew Ferguson and minor league free agent Cameron Maybin failed to produce desired results, the Giants turned to alternative outfield options and have now found their way to Pillar.
