Dusty Baker on Nationals, minority managers and his new book

Dusty Baker has so many interests and visions that if he hadn’t spent most his life in baseball, it’s easy to imagine him succeeding elsewhere.

Music, business, education, literature, sociology, the arts. Baseball was the chosen field, but all of the above are on Baker’s resume, all a part of what he brings to the table as a manager, a job for which he still has a passion and competitive edge despite being away for two seasons.

Baker was a finalist for the Nationals’ managing gig, which went to Bud Black, who pitched on the Giants’ 103-win team in 1993, Baker’s first year as manager.
