NEW YORK -- Heading into Thursday afternoon's marquee matchup with Jacob deGrom, Madison Bumgarner knew runs would be at a premium. The Giants' ace said he prepared "knowing I probably can't give up a run," the thought being that against deGrom, he may only get one to work with.
When the Giants gave Bumgarner one in the third inning, they basically created one out of thin air. Credit center fielder Steven Duggar with the magic trick.
Batting ninth in the Giants' order behind Bumgarner, Duggar worked a walk against deGrom to begin the frame.
