Decision to use Aroldis Chapman early backfires on Cubs

To combat the team that loves to come back from the brink of extinction, the Cubs have just the man for Game 4 Tuesday.

John Lackey has pitched in this position before, with a chance to end the Giants’ season. And he closed the door on them, turning in a strong performance in Game 7 of the 2002 World Series for the Angels.

It’s a memory San Francisco fans would prefer to forget, but Lackey, who will start Game 4 of the NLDS for the Cubs on Tuesday at AT&T Park, doesn’t actually remember it that well himself.
