SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A new rule designed to help speed up games requires pitching coaches and managers to complete visits to the mound in 30 seconds, from the time they leave the dugout to the moment they leave the mound.
“Some guys aren’t going to make it,” pitching coach Dave Righetti said after he complied Thursday without even knowing it.
Righetti jogged to the mound after Josh Osich walked the first three hitters in the eighth inning and had no idea a clock in right field was counting down from 30 seconds.
