Crawford heads to DL with right groin strain

will be shifted from the bereavement list to the 10-day disabled list with a right groin strain, the Giants announced Saturday. The shortstop's three days on the bereavement list will count toward his DL stint, which would make him eligible to return next Saturday in Cincinnati.

Crawford strained his groin during the eighth inning of Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Dodgers, just before he left the team to attend the funeral for his sister in-law. He had an MRI on Friday, and manager Bruce Bochy indicated a return on Saturday would be unlikely.

In Crawford's stead, rookie Christian Arroyo, who was called up from Triple-A Sacramento and made his MLB debut Monday against the Dodgers, will start at short again and bat fifth on Saturday vs.
