Could Giants’ Cueto start All-Star Game? ‘Record speaks for itself’

Johnny Cueto could be the next man up.

The Giants’ pitcher has what manager Bruce Bochy calls a “real good shot” to start Tuesday’s All-Star Game in San Diego.

“If I’m elected to start, I will be very happy,” Cueto told The Chronicle’s Ann Killion on Saturday.

On whether he believes he deserves the opportunity, he said, “I’d like to say yes because my record speaks for itself.”

Cueto’s chances of starting have improved amid a series of injuries, defections and technicalities.

Clayton Kershaw was the clear favorite before going on the disabled list.
