Yesterday, the Giants claimed 30-year old utility infielder Corban Joseph off waivers from the A’s. Here’s a tweet that caught my eye:
Corban Joseph, acquired today, will play some third base when Evan Longoria rests, Bruce Bochy says. Joseph bats left-handed.

With Pablo Sandoval out for the rest of the season and Zack Green both in Triple-A helping the River Cats in the PCL playoffs and having been overmatched in limited big league time, grabbing a veteran makes some sense. Whether or not Joseph will work out as a third baseman, if that will be his primary role, remains to be seen.
