Giants fans had another "just shoot me now and put me out of my misery" moment Tuesday night as their team's increasingly anemic bullpen somehow squandered a three-run, ninth-inning lead to the lowly Padres.
There were a couple of dying-quail singles, a bases-loaded walk, a tardy attempt by a pitcher to cover first on a grounder and the coup de grace — a deep, three-run homer by Ryan "I'm Batting .226" Schimpf.
What looked like a sure win for the Giants was erased in a flash.
It's tempting to call this the worst loss of the season given the playoff implications, but the fact is the Giants have been blowing saves all season.
