MESA, Ariz. - The Giants broke camp with a 10-7 victory over the Cubs on Tuesday, a positive ending to a spring training that only seems like it began during the Reagan administration.
The longer-than-usual spring meant even more debate on the fifth starter. On Tuesday, in a 99-pitch start against the World Series champs, Cain provided the coaches and front office an argument to pick him over Ty Blach.
Cain allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings, one scoring after he left the game. He held the Cubs to two runs over the first five innings, on a Chesny Young homer.
