SAN DIEGO–With a rookie on the mound and the Giants squaring off with a young left-hander, manager Bruce Bochy wanted Buster Posey to start Sunday’s game behind the plate.
That won’t happen, though, as Posey is nursing a sore right thumb.
The Giants don’t believe Posey’s injury will linger, and with an off day on Monday, Bochy said he thinks Posey will be back in the lineup when the club starts a three-game set in Arizona Tuesday.
“We just think he could use a day,” Bochy said. “It’s got some swelling in there, but he’s fine.
