DENVER – The Giants will begin a six-game road trip without their cleanup-hitting catcher.
Buster Posey isn’t in the lineup Tuesday at Coors Field because of a right instep that remained sore two days after the Dodgers’ Chase Utley struck him with a foul tip. Posey had X-rays that ruled out a fracture. He’s day to day, and might be available to pinch hit.
The Giants get their first regular-season look at Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who has seven home runs in his first six games. It’s up to Jeff Samardzija and rookie catcher Trevor Brown to slow down Story, who is bidding to end Brandon Crawford’s reign as the NL Silver after just one season.
