DENVER – Make no mistake, catcher Buster Posey is the most irreplaceable player on the Giants roster.
But when your backup backstop is coming off a two-homer game, worked well behind the plate with a pitcher in transition and is invoking names like Kevin Mitchell and Bobby Thomson, well, it’s easier to give Posey a break when he needs it.
Posey’s bruised right foot still needs it.
He’s out of the Giants lineup for the second consecutive day because of the bruised foot, which he sustained when struck by a foul tip on Sunday. Trevor Brown gets another start and he’ll catch Jake Peavy against the Colorado Rockies.
