Can a certified franchise icon’s legacy ever really be tarnished?
Sure, it’s possible, if they commit some awful grievance or show themselves to be a generally terrible human being over the course of their lives, but even then they’ll have their defenders. If a guy performs at legendary levels for a team, there isn’t much he can do to lower his standing with the fan base. It’s a perk of being an icon.
Buster Posey has certainly earned that reputation. More bulletproof than virtually any Giants player past or present, the catalyst for the greatest sustained run in franchise history, and just an all-around pleasant guy, Posey has built up a generation’s worth of goodwill with Giants fans.
