ANAHEIM–After playing first base in Friday’s contest against Anaheim, Buster Posey was penciled in as the Giants designated hitter on Saturday.
But about a half hour before first pitch, Posey was scratched with back stiffness. Pablo Sandoval will serve as the designated hitter and replace Posey as the cleanup hitter in the Giants’ lineup.
Posey has dealt with a sore thumb already this season, but the back stiffness appears to be a new injury.
In 63 at-bats this season, Posey has a .270 average with two home runs and eight RBIs.
Nick Hundley will catch for the second straight night, while Brandon Belt is back in the lineup as the Giants first baseman.
