Projected Opening Day pitcher Madison Bumgarner said Sunday he will miss one or two spring training starts for the Giants due to a pair of physical issues that have been nagging him.
Bumgarner felt a slight tug near the middle of his ribcage while taking batting practice a few days ago, and he also is dealing with neuroma, a nerve condition between his third and fourth toes on his left foot.
Bumgarner underwent an MRI for the ribcage issue and no oblique damage was discovered. As for the foot issue, it cropped up during the offseason and he has been dealing with it for awhile but the pitcher said that the condition has improved with treatment.
