Bumgarner set for second simulated game

DENVER -- Left-hander Madison Bumgarner was assigned to pitch a second simulated game Wednesday, demonstrating that his quest to recover from injury and rejoin the Giants' starting rotation has continued to proceed smoothly.

Bumgarner threw 25 pitches in a simulated game Saturday at the Giants' training complex in Scottsdale, Ariz. He's recovering from bruised ribs and a sprained joint in his throwing shoulder, which he sustained in an April 20 dirt-bike accident.

Bumgarner, San Francisco's Opening Day starter and a four-time All-Star, is expected to make five Minor League starts on an injury rehabilitation assignment before his expected return to the rotation after the mid-July All-Star break.
