WASHINGTON, D.C. — Every afternoon before the Giants play, manager Bruce Bochy sits in the dugout and reviews news from the day with a small group of reporters.
Bochy, as it turns out, has always had a knack for delivering the news.
Decades before he became a widely-quoted manager whose name appears in the news on a daily basis, he was responsible for ensuring Washington Evening Star newspaper subscribers received their afternoon paper.
“They had these contests where you went out and tried to solicit customers,” Bochy said. “Top five got free tickets to a game, so I was out hustling to get those free tickets.
