Friends, family and ballplayers from Willie Mays and Willie McCovey to Jim Davenport, Hobie Landrith and Eddie Bressoud gathered on the club level at AT&T Park Thursday night to pay tribute to broadcaster Lon Simmons.
“Tell him goodbye,” a takeoff on Simmons’ home run call, was the theme of the upbeat memorial, attended by about 300 and held 3½ months after he died at 91.
“He was the soundtrack to our summers and the soundtrack to our falls and winters,” said Wayne Hagin, a former A’s and Giants broadcaster.
