SAN FRANCISCO –The kind of young talent the Giants could only dream of was on display Monday night in a 4-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves at Oracle Park.
Starting pitcher Mike Soroka, 21, improved his record to 5-1, giving up two hits in eight innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. Leadoff batter Ronald Acuna Jr., also 21, hit a leadoff home run in the first inning and another solo shot in the seventh off Nick Vincent, his 10th and 11th of the season. He also had a fifth inning double.
Shortstop Brandon Crawford accounted for the lone run off Soroka with his third home run of the season leading off the sixth inning and was in fact the first Giants baserunner of the game.
