SAN FRANCISCO–For many Giants fans who watched the team collect three World Series trophies in five seasons, it’s impossible to envision ace Madison Bumgarner wearing a different club’s uniform.
But when the Giants hire a new executive to lead the front office this offseason, it’s entirely possible the person in charge won’t feel the same emotional connection to the left-hander that fans do.
It’s no secret that trading Bumgarner with one year remaining on his contract could expedite a rebuild and help the Giants contend again sooner rather than later. While Giants CEO Larry Baer has given no indication the franchise would entertain the idea of moving Bumgarner this offseason, he may interview a slew of candidates to replace former general manager Bobby Evans who would consider a dramatic trade.
