ANAHEIM -- The Giants' Brandon Belt worked a 21-pitch at-bat Sunday against Angels starter Jaime Barria, the most pitches in a single plate appearance in the last 20 years.
Belt hit 16 foul balls in the first-inning plate appearance that ended with a fly ball to right field.
The marathon session bested the previous record of a 20-pitch at-bat between the Astros' Ricky Gutierrez against the Indians' Bartolo Colon on June 26, 1998.
Barria was making his second appearance in the Majors, having been called up earlier in the day to make the start against the Giants.
