Bumgarner is not the only Giant in recent memory to miss time due to an unusual injury. First baseman Brandon Belt missed significant time in 2014 after being hit in the face with a ball during batting practice that July. Now-retired reliever Jeremy Affeldt suffered a pair of notable off-field injuries, hurting his knee in August 2015 playing with his kids and cutting his right hand while handling frozen hamburgers in 2011.
