"We might have to back him off," Bochy said, not intending any sort of pun. Ominously, Peavy said his next start had not been scheduled.
Asked if Peavy had experienced a setback, Bochy replied, "I guess you could [say that]," though he quickly added the problem wasn't serious.
Bochy said he planned on meeting with Peavy, team physicians and head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner after Friday's batting practice to discuss the 14-year veteran's condition. Peavy threw 70 pitches Wednesday in a Minor League injury rehabilitation start with Triple-A Sacramento, allowing six runs and nine hits in 4 2/3 innings.
