As the Arizona Diamondbacks prepared to introduce Madison Bumgarner at Chase Field on Tuesday, the San Francisco Giants bid farewell to a player they called “one of the greatest pitchers in the 138-year history of the franchise.”
Moments after the D’backs announced they agreed to a five-year deal with Bumgarner that’s worth a reported $85 million, the Giants released a team statement and a video tribute to the left-hander on social media.
“We thank Madison for all that he has given to the Giants and the Bay Area community and we are deeply grateful for the success, excitement and memories he created over a remarkable 11-year period in a Giants uniform,” the statement said.
