SAN FRANCISCO — Kevin Pillar raced diagonally back toward center field and dove to rob Kevin Cron of an extra-base hit in the top of the first inning, a play that allowed the Giants to double up Adam Jones at first base.
It was the Giants’ most memorable play Saturday — a catch of the year candidate — and even then, it didn’t come without some bad luck. After an official review, it was determined Ildemaro Vargas had touched home plate for the Arizona Diamondbacks’ second run of the inning before the double play was completed.
So it went for the Giants, who gave up 13 hits and committed two errors in a 10-4 loss to the Diamondbacks before an announced crowd of 31,581 at Oracle Park.
