SAN FRANCISCO — Jeremy Affeldt was enjoying an off-day drink earlier this month in San Diego when his eight-year-old son, Walker, reached out on FaceTime and asked how far he was from the airport. When Jeremy told Walker it was a 10-minute drive, his son asked him to come home. A few days later, as the two were headed to bed, Walker changed his mind and told his dad that he shouldn’t retire.
It’s been that kind of up-and-down year for Affeldt, who has thought about retirement since Game 7 of the 2014 World Series and said he considered walking away from the game at the All-Star break this year.
