Barry Bonds might be the greatest living baseball player, but he has stiff competition, particularly when it comes to his fellow Giants. As you know, he’ll be the 12th player in franchise history to have his jersey number retired. One caveat: Christy Mathewson (Pitcher, 1900-1916) and John McGraw (NY Giants manager, 1902-1932) aren’t on this list as both players predated jerseys with numbers on them; and neither is Jackie Robinson, whose #42 was retired by all teams back in 1997.
