Heyman quickly apologized for "jumping the gun," but it was a complete misfire: Overnight, Judge re-signed with the Yankees.
The Yankees have had some fun with it. When the team officially announced the Judge contract later that month, they tweeted out, "We're fired up," with a winky face and flame emoji.
At least one enterprising Giants fan is embracing the pain. The Giants are opening the season Thursday at Yankee Stadium, where Yankees manager Aaron Boone admitted he had dark visions of Judge lining up in a Giants uniform. It appears that the makers of custom MLB jerseys are far less strict than, say, the California DMV.
