A Giants win at Fenway? They'll try for their first in 104 years

BOSTON – Stepping into Fenway Park, I had a startling thought.

Willie Mays never played a regular-season game here. There are few concepts as cherished in baseball history as Fenway Park and Willie Mays, and they never intersected.

(Well, except for this: Mays did play at Fenway once in the 1961 All-Star Game, which ended in a 1-1 tie. Oddly enough, they played two All-Star Games for awhile. The AL and NL also met at Candlestick Park a few weeks earlier.)

It’s matchups like the Giants-Red Sox that make interleague play palatable, at least temporarily.
