Those five words encapsulate the overarching question for the Giants as they begin spring training Monday, with pitchers and catchers reporting to Scottsdale Stadium.
The winter angst following a Division Series exit stemmed from the belief that the Giants could have won the 2016 World Series if only they had a closer, so they got one, signing Mark Melancon to a four-year, $62 million contract. Then the Giants did next to nothing.
Their only other significant 40-man roster acquisition was Nick Hundley, who will spell catcher Buster Posey and add a right-handed bat off the bench.
