The SF Giants have been connected to several potentially-available arms prior to the MLB Trade Deadline, including Cincinnati Reds starters Johnny Cueto and Mike Leake.
However, CBS Sports' Jon Heyman speculates that the team's need for depth on their bench could counteract their desire to land anotherr arm for the rotation.
"The Pirates and Giants also are looking at starters, but those teams may ultimately decide their positional needs are greater, with Pittsburgh needing to shore up the left side of its infield following injuries to Jordy Mercer and Josh Harrison and San Francisco hoping to improve its thin bench," Heyman wrote on Thursday.
While such speculation doesn't shut the door on such a trade, keep an eye on potential outfield bench additions like former Giant Michael Morse and Oakland A's utilityman Ben Zobrist.
