Star San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey will return to the lineup on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers after missing the last three games with a thumb injury. However, SFGate.com's Henry Schulman reports that the team isn't sure where Posey will be in that lineup:
Return here for the actual lineup, when we’ll learn if Posey catches or plays first base for Brandon Belt, who, um, doesn’t hit Kershaw well,
I’ve learned that Posey had a cortisone shot in the thumb when the Giants were in St. Louis, which could explain why the club was adamant about not playing him for so long. It can take a few days for the effects of the shot and swelling to go down.
Posey's thumb injury was described as an "irritated nerve," and he said he has been dealing with the thumb issue for some time.
Posey is batting .257 with eight homers, 26 RBIs and a .766 OPS this season.
