The San Francisco Giants are getting Ryan Vogelsong back.
The 37-year-old had been linked to several teams around the league over the past month, but ultimately chose to return to San Francisco on a one-year deal worth $4 million plus bonuses.
The Astros, Rockies and Phillies had all been in hot pursuit, but the allure of San Francisco - the team that first drafted him in 2000, then saw him rise to prominence after a 10-year odyssey in the minors and Japan - was too much to pass up.
Vogelsong joins a crowded rotation already expected to feature Madison Bumgarner, Tim Hudson, Matt Cain, Jake Peavy and Tim Lincecum, and it's hard to tell where he fits in at the moment. His best shot at a starting job will come if Tim Lincecum continues to struggle, but the Giants clearly saw enough reasons to bring him back to extend an offer.
Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle was first to report the $4m deal had been agreed.
