Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig caused some controversy last week when he said that the St. Louis Cardinals had overtaken the San Francisco Giants as LA's "principal rivals," but SF Giants broadcaster Mike Krukow says fans shouldn't read too much into what Puig has to say.
“He’s just young. He’s just young and dumb and he’s gonna say some stuff,” Krukow said on KNBR 680-AM Monday morning. “As a group, I doubt if they are gonna be talking about it openly but they are gonna be thinking about it. They don’t miss stuff like that … if there was any way to refocus a whole group with a World Series hangover, this is it. Thank you Yasiel Puig.”
Puig's Cardinals comments come on the heels of the Dodgers being eliminated from the playoffs by the Redbirds in two straight seasons, but giving the Giants dynasty even more motivation wasn't exactly Einstein-level work on the part of the polarizing Los Angeles outfielder.
